Director, Hardware Engineering

BrightSign, the global market leader in digital signage media players, is seeking an experienced Director of Hardware Engineering to join our rapidly growing global team in Cambirdge, UK.  BrightSign is the global leader in digital media players, headquartered in Los Gatos, CA. Our media players are used worldwide, by many different vertical markets. They are very flexible devices, providing the ability to play back audio and video media in many different formats, to render HTML, and to run applications in JavaScript, Java and BrightScript. They are highly reliable; our customers depend on them to stay up 24x7. They can connect to any server to obtain data and media, interface to other hardware and devices in a variety of ways, and can be synchronized together to create video walls of almost unlimited size.

Based in our Cambridge office you will be responsible for providing oversight and direction to our hardware engineering team.  This is a “hands on” role involving leadership by example and strong technical skills are essential.

Essential Duties

  • Translate high-level requirements from product development team into concrete, buildable implementations
  • Whole-lifecycle development of new products (concept, proposal, prototyping, validation, mass production and in-service troubleshooting)
  • Design innovative solutions and select components accordingly
  • Generate and review schematics, PCB designs, test plans etc as required
  • Work with manufacturing partners, industrial designers, software development teams, and other internal and external stakeholders as necessary
  • Supervise other hardware development staff both in Cambridge and at other locations

Required Experience

  • Experience with both analogue and digital circuit design including power supplies and high-speed interfaces
  • Familiarity with EDA tools (Cadence preferred but not essential)
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and procurement
  • Experience of validation testing and design-for-test principles
  • Some knowledge of software systems is desirable but not essential
